It was a lucky escape for 12 passengers and 5 crew on board an Antonov 26 aircraft, which on landing in Yambio slid off the runway and ended up in the bush surrounding the airstrip.
The incident happened yesterday afternoon and details have been difficult to come by, including information about the registration of the aircraft, its owner and operator.
UN personnel of UNMISS in South Sudan used some of their equipment to pull the aircraft out of the bush on to the airstrip where it is being inspected for potential damage as an air accident investigation is going underway.
Six tons of cargo destined for Yambio was then offloaded it is understood.
Once additional information becomes available will ATCNews file and update.
