RWANDA AND INDIA SIGN NEW AIR SERVICE DEAL
(Posted 12th January 2017)
On the sidelines of President Kagame’s visit to India, where he attended the 08th Gujarat Summit, was reportedly pen put to paper to seal the deal on a new air service agreement. This now paves the way for RwandAir to embark in earnest on launching flights to Mumbai, which is expected to be in Quarter 2 of this year, perhaps as early as April.
Investments by Indian companies in Rwanda, trade and tourism are expected to be the key beneficiaries when direct flights are launched between Kigali and Mumbai, using the airline’s new Airbus A330 aircraft to serve the route, initially probably three times a week.
Meanwhile has the airline also confirmed that flights to Harare / Zimbabwe are now launching in April this year, not as earlier expected in January. The new destination will be served in conjunction with Zambia’s Lusaka while at that stage flights to South Africa will revert to nonstop services. Lilongwe, Bamako and Conakry are also on the drawing board for more African destinations during 2017, as are London and later in the year New York.
