INDIAN OCEAN STORM SEASON MORE INTENSE THAN USUAL AS ANOTHER CYCLONE EMERGES

Air Mauritius has warned that incoming Cyclone Joaninha is likely to disrupt air traffic to and from the island of Rodrigues.
Flights yesterday were brought forward to avoid most of the strengthening winds now blowing down hard on the island, which appears to be in a direct path of this cyclone.
Only last week did Cyclone Idai hit the Mozambique coastline around the city of Beira, wreaking havoc in its path all the way into Malawi and Zimbabwe too. It was described as on of the worst storms ever.
Several cyclones have already come and gone this storm season in the African part of the Indian Ocean, interpreted by observers as a fallout of global warming and climate change.
Visitors to the island of Rodrigues are advised to stay in close contact with their airline to learn about any changes in flight departure times or possible flight cancellations and follow official announcements of the authorities in Rodrigues.
