BUILDING NETWORKS – IMPROVING SKILLS – NURTURING TALENT

A chef association was formed in the Seychelles recently, bringing together accomplished chefs from around the world presently working on the paradise islands but also providing a professional platform for young Seychellois chefs where they can interact on a level basis with the seniors in their profession.
Key partner of the association is the Seychelles Tourism Academy and both Chairman of the Board John Stravens and the Principal of STA – himself a chef and author of several culinary books – Mr. Flavien Joubert were present at the launch which took places at the Seychelles Kempinski Resort, introducing the new executive of the association.
STA has in recent years been staging competitions where young chefs, already at work but also those training for further advancement at the academy, have been participating in order to learn and hone their skills.

It is expected that STA and Chef Association will be working hand in hand in the future to stage more competitions and provide a platform for young chefs to advance in their profession.
Meanwhile was it also learned from a regular source on Mahe, that the sale of the former Reef Hotel has been approved by the Seychelles government. It is understood that the new Mauritius based owners will invest in excess of 30 million US Dollars to rebuild the resort, in the process adding much needed bed capacity and providing job opportunities for Seychellois.
Notably was the Reef Hotel the very first international class resort opened in the Seychelles back in 1972, before it was closed and later put up for sale.
