SKYTRAX NAMES EMIRATES AS WORLD’S TOP AIRLINE WHILE QATAR AIRWAYS COMES A CLOSE SECOND
(Posted 14th July 2016)
The annual SkyTrax airline awards, the world’s leading source of independent rankings and ratings, held yesterday at the Farnborough Airshow, has handed Emirates the top trophy as the world’s best airline. Alongside did Dubai’s award winning airline also capture the award for the world’s best inflight entertainment.
Runner up, by a reportedly narrow margin, came Qatar Airways, which captured three key awards, for Best Business Class, Best Business Class Lounge and best ground staff in the Middle East.
The third of the big league Gulf carriers, Etihad, while capturing the awards for Best First Class, only came in sixth among the global top ten, with third place handed to Singapore Airlines, fourth going to Cathay Pacific and fifth to ANA All Nippon Airways.
The best airline in Africa award was surprisingly handed to South African Airways, somewhat a surprise given the range of recent comments seen and received from passengers.
South Africa’s Kulula was named as best low cost airline in Africa.
Emirates presently flies daily to Entebbe and double daily to Nairobi and Dar es Salaam while Qatar Airways served Entebbe, Kigali, Nairobi, Dar es Salaam, Kilimanjaro and Zanzibar, giving passengers plenty of opportunity to sample the inflight services of the world’s two leading airlines for 2016.
