Emirates set to reduce Nairobi flights during runway repairs at Dubai International Airport

EMIRATES REDUCES FLIGHTS TO NAIROBI TO JUST ONE DURING DXB RUNWAY WORKS

When during the period from 01st of May until the 20th of July the two runways of Dubai International Airport are undergoing maintenance and re-surfacing, airlines flying to what is poised to become the world’s busiest international airport later this year, have to reduce capacity or move to the recently opened Dubai World Central in Jebel Ali which is also knows as Al Maktoum International Airport.

Emirates, it was learned, will reduce flights accordingly by about 26 percent as the national airline of Dubai has opted to stay for the duration at DXB and operate all flights, albeit on a reduced schedule, from there.

The airline has now confirmed that the presently two flights a day from Dubai to Nairobi, operated on Airbus A340-500 equipment, will be combined during the period the airport works are ongoing with a larger aircraft being scheduled for the flights.

Passengers to and from Nairobi will be able to enjoy a three class Boeing B777-300ER which will offer nearly 100 more seats compared to the smaller A340-500.

This will put Emirates on a similar footing like Kenya Airways, which operates a daily flight from Nairobi to Dubai using a Boeing B767-300 at the moment.
