Ethiopian Airlines has officially commenced construction of Bishoftu International Airport, a USD 12.5 billion flagship project set to become the largest aviation infrastructure development in Africa. The new airport is due for opening in 2030.
The new airport will be located in Bishoftu, approximately 45 km southeast of Addis Ababa and will have on full completion have four runways, will have the capacity for 110 million passengers annually and offer parking for up to 270 aircraft.
The new aviation infrastructure development will significantly strengthen Ethiopia’s already leading position as Africa’s number one airline and hub but also as a leading global aviation hub, outperforming most if not all European airports, all South and Central American airports as well as leading gateways in North America and Asia.
