Ethiopian’s country manager in Mozambique went on record with local media last week, that flights from Addis Ababa are on the cards, commencing in July with three services per week.
Other aviation sources thereafter suggested that the flights would be combined with final destination Maputo, going as far as suggesting that the service would be granted domestic traffic rights to uplift passengers between the two cities.
While Beira was devastated a few months ago by a monster cyclone storm is the airport infrastructure intace and reconstruction efforts are well underway for parts of the city’s infrastructure and housing.
Ethiopian Airlines Mocambique presently uses Q400 aircraft for domestic flights and has plans to create a secondary hub in Beira which is more centrally located. From there are services planned to Maputo, Nampala, Pemba and several other domestic destinations.
