(Posted 05th December 2016)
Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, today marks its first year of operations in Tanzania, as it continues to support the growing two-way flow of business and leisure travellers flying between Dar es Salaam and the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi.
Over 60,000 passengers have flown with the airline on this route since it launched daily services linking both capital cities in December 2015, with many passengers choosing to travel onwards over Etihad Airways’ hub to popular destinations in Europe and Asia.
The service is operated by a two-class Airbus A320 aircraft with 16 seats in Business Class and 120 seats in Economy. Dar es Salaam is the airline’s third departure point in East Africa, along with Nairobi in Kenya where the airline operates flights in codeshare with Kenya Airways, and also Entebbe in Uganda which is served several times a week.
Mr. John Friel, the Etihad Airways Regional General Manager Sub Sahara, said: ‘Our first year of operation has been extremely important to us as we position ourselves as the airline of choice in the Tanzanian market. We are very pleased with the performance of our flights and the impressive passenger numbers are a strong reflection that the airline is meeting the needs of the local market. Our aim is to continue to work closely with local business partners in Tanzania to ensure that even more passengers travel with us and experience the award-winning products and services for which Etihad Airways is renowned‘.
Etihad Airways currently flies to 10 destinations across Africa, including Johannesburg, Nairobi, Entebbe, Dar es Salaam, Khartoum, Casablanca, Rabat, Lagos, Cairo and Mahé in the Seychelles, the latter served double daily in conjunction with partner airline Air Seychelles.
