EAST AFRICAN COMMUNITY’S ‘JAMAFEST 2015’ OPENS IN NAIROBI

Nairobi is the host city of the second edition of the East African Community’s ‘JAMAFEST’ and locals and visitors alike can take advantage of seeing a variety of shows and exhibitions over the next week at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre in the heart of Kenya’s capital.

Aimed to tap into the growing market segment of cultural festivals has ‘JAMAFEST’ been described as a regional showcase for art, music, drama, dance, poetry, story telling and for good measure even a carnival event.

Special attention has been paid when the programme was put together for children and youth activities during the weeklong festival.

The EAC’s Secretary General Dr. Richard Sezibera expressed his hope that the rotational principle of the festival, which was staged for the first time two years ago in Kigali. The inaugural festival attracted over 17.500 visitors to the Amahoro Stadium and more are expected in Nairobi now that the event is better known. Tourism marketers too have endorsed the weeklong event and expressed their hope that it will add to the attraction of the region as a whole.

Not to be outdone though was Kampala where a precursor ‘JAMAFEST Flagship Show’ was staged at the National Theatre last week to raise funds and show support for the Ugandan team which has since arrived in Nairobi to represent the Pearl of Africa in the event.
