Fairway Hotel & Spa appoints new senior manager

KAINEMBABAZI GARIYO SABITI JOINS KAMPALA’S FAIRWAY HOTEL AS BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

(Posted 06th May 2021)

Dating back to 1969, when the Jaffer family converted a family home to a small hotel on the occasion of the first ever Papal visit to Uganda, has this hotel stood the test of time.
The official launch was performed two years later by H.R.H. The Aga Khan, who officially opened the 50 room hotel.
Taken over by the Amin regime in 1972 did the hotel reopen in 1989 as the base for Uganda’s first Hotel and Tourism Training Institute before the Jaffer family reclaimed their properties in Uganda and subsequently expanded the Fairway Hotel & Spa into a 100 room and suites property, located just opposite the Uganda Golf Union golf course in the heart of the city.

The hotel has now confirmed that Ms. Kaine Sabiti has joined their management team as Business Development Manager, to ensure that the hotel maintains its competitive position in Kampala.

Kaine is no stranger to the Kampala scene of course, having been in the tourism industry for her entire career after completing her studies in the UK where she attained a BA (Hons) degree.

She is also a holder two post graduate diplomas from IATA/UFTAA in International Travel & Tourism.

Kaine started her career as a Customer Service Executive at Kenya Airways’ Nigeria office in October 1999, before being promoted to Sales Support Executive, at the airline’s Ivory Coast office.

When British Airways beckoned did she return to Kampala where she worked as a Key Account Executive for 4 years from July 2003 until 2007.

With her experience in the airline industry arena she was then headhunted and recruited by Amadeus, the travel technology company, as Country Manager for three East African countries of Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania and rose in rank to Brand & Communications Manager East Africa Regional Office followed by an appointment as Marketing Manager East Africa Regional Office for 2 ½ years.

At Amadeus she boosted their market share in Uganda from 10% to 25%, which was no mean feat at the time given the tactics of Galileo, Amadeus’ main competitor in the region.

As a result did she receive two awards for Amadeus East Africa Excellence for a successful customer migration and for innovating and positively contributing with new ideas

Networking and bringing change in the hospitality is important to Kaine who is an active member of Skal Club, founding member of La Chaine des Rotisseurs, an international gastronomical association with clubs worldwide, and one of the founding members of the Uganda branch of Business & Professional Women’s Association (BPW).

Apart from her travel consultancy Kaine is fluent in both written and spoken French and Spanish. As a linguist she provides French translation services to organisations and individuals.

Kaine joined the team at Fairway Hotel & Spa as a Business Development Manager at the beginning of May and ATCNews extends best wishes to her for a successful future in the hospitality industry.
