FANCOURT – ARGUABLY #AFRICA’S NUMBER ONE GOLF DESTINATION
(Posted 21st March 2019)
Golfers can once again take advantage of a special package aimed at introducing them to Fancourt Estate’s beautiful Outeniqua and Montagu courses and the various golfing delights on offer at this globally recognised, award-winning Garden Route destination.
Situated near the town of George has Fancourt over the years positioned itself as one of Africa’s leading golf destinations, putting the sport on the map.
Dubbed "Tee off in Paradise," the minimum two-night package has been tailored especially for South African residents – packages for visitors from other African countries are of course also available – and kicks off on 01st of April this year, running until the end of September. The package includes a full English breakfast each morning and a round of golf on either the Outeniqua or Montagu courses, or, if guests prefer to golf one day and relax the next, they can choose either a spa or dinner voucher instead of 18 holes.
Of course, when it comes to golf, Fancourt excels. Over the years the estate’s three courses – Montagu, Outeniqua and The Links – have been the recipients of some of the golf world’s most prestigious awards and have hosted major competitions such as the Presidents Cup.
Fancourt itself was named Africa’s Best Golf Hotel in 2017 by the World Golf Awards and was also honoured with the title of 2018 Golf Resort of the Year at the 18th annual International Association of Golf Tour Operators awards held in Cannes. The 2018 Golf Digest ranking voted Montagu No 8 and Outeniqua No 14.
Originally designed by Gary Player, the Montagu course has developed into one of the finest 18-hole parkland layouts in South Africa. Conditioned to provide a riveting golfing experience, this tree-lined course covers varying, rolling terrain on the estate.
The Outeniqua course presents an 18-hole parkland layout tailored to provide a laid-back golfing experience, offering easier game play than its counterpart, Montagu, while still having its fair share of challenges and water hazards on 11 of its holes. Designed by Gary Player and named after the mountain range that forms its breathtaking backdrop, the course is conditioned to accommodate a large volume of players.
A warm-up area, featuring a full-length range and a chipping and bunker practice area, is available to golfers before play. Golf carts are available for hire, weather permitting.
Guests seeking more luxurious accommodation while at Fancourt can opt to book themselves at the Manor House, a five star boutique hotel which leaves nothing to be desired.
