JUST WEEKS INTO THE NEW ROUTE DOES FASTJET ADD 6 MORE DAILY FLIGHTS TO JO’BURG
(Posted 17th February 2016)
Fastjet Zimbabwe has earlier today confirmed that over the space of the next few weeks six additional flights between Harare and Johannesburg will be launched, all operating in the evening.
Flights on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday will commence as of the 26th of February while two extra services will be added on the 28th of March on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
This will bring the overall number of flights between the two cities to 13 a week overall and the missing Saturday flight is expected to complete the double daily service later in the year.
‘We have always promised to increase the frequency on our route between Harare and Johannesburg as and when our customers demanded it‘ said Ed Lanca, Director of Flight Operations at fastjet Zimbabwe. ‘Announcing an extra six return flights a week just one month after the inaugural Johannesburg flight emphasizes our commitment to growing our flight schedule, making air travel easy, safe and affordable. The additional evening return flights mean that passengers can schedule meetings in either Harare or Johannesburg, and travel to their destination city and back home within the same day. This convenience and choice is great for business passengers under pressure to maximise time and cost savings, and who do not want to overnight for just one or two meetings‘.
The increase in flights will also very likely put paid to any attempts by FlyAfrica to return to the route, not only because their reputation has been thoroughly wrecked when they lost their AOC and then promised literally from one day to the next to resume operations but mostly because passengers who had paid for their tickets had to wait for months to get refunds with some allegedly still waiting to be paid back.
‘Fastjet’s launch of operations brought relief to Zimbabwean travellers‘ wrote a source from Harare when confirming the news of the extra flights before adding ‘They were badly let down and lost trust in one airline which had offered cheap flights but did not deliver. Now Fastjet is setting new standards and their ontime performance is very good. If only they could add Bulawayo and fly daily to Victoria Falls‘.
In a related development have no further news emerged from Lusaka however on the proposed launch date of flights from the Zambian capital but as and when news are available be sure to read about it right here.
