Fastjet reaches two million passengers

TWO MILLION AND COUNTING AS FASTJET REACHES LANDMARK FIGURE

(Posted 25th April 2016)

Only 15 months after reaching the first millionth passenger has Fastjet now uplifted its second millionth passenger on a flight from Nairobi to Dar es Salaam. Peace Mteketa Matovu was the lucky traveler who when landing in Dar es Salaam at the Julius Nyerere International Airport was greeted by airline management and staff with a bouquet of flowers and other goodies.
Since the airline launched operations in November 2012 has the fleet grown to five Airbus A319 and operations expanded from Tanzania to Zimbabwe.

Fastjet’s busiest destination from Dar es Salaam is Mwanza with nearly 830.000 passengers flying to and from Mwanza since flights started in November 2012. The airline’s most popular international route is between Johannesburg and Dar es Salaam which has carried close to 90,000 passengers since the route launched in October 2013. All flights from Johannesburg now continue to the holiday island of Zanzibar.

The airline also revealed that it has carried over 900,000 items of baggage in line with its policy of charging passengers for items of luggage, which is consistent with low-cost airline best practice worldwide.

While serving Kilimanjaro, Mwanza, Mbeya and Zanzibar on domestic routes out of Dar es Salaam does the airline in the meantime also fly from Dar to Entebbe and Nairobi in East Africa and to Lusaka, Harare, Lilongwe and South Africa in the southern African region. Out of Harare does Fastjet Zimbabwe also serve Victoria Falls, more recently also linked to Johannesburg.
