FASTJET SET FOR ENTEBBE CELEBRATION
(Posted 11th April 2015)
The launch of flights between Kilimanjaro International Airport and Entebbe International Airport a few days ago will next Tuesday be formally celebrated when the airline will hold an event at the Karibu Lounge for invited guests and the media.
Jimmy Kibati, based in Dar es Salaam and in charge of the airline’s East Africa operations, will travel to Uganda to do the honours for the airline. Jimmy is no stranger to Uganda as he served for several years as Kenya Airways’ country manager before rising to senior management positions until he joined Fastjet two years ago making this a happy return no doubt.
Fastjet now flies three times a week between Dar es Salaam and Entebbe and three times a week between Kilimanjaro and Entebbe. It is the latter flight which now makes it possible again to fly nonstop from Uganda to attend meetings at the East African Community headquarters in Arusha, which JRO serves as the main airport.
Fares are starting at 50 US Dollars, PLUS TAXES AND FEES which in many cases actually exceed the fare and more than double the cost of air travel, a damning indictment of the regional aviation regulators and airport operators, making airtravel expensive instead of affordable to bring more travelers into aircraft and fly.
Fastjet has also announced another major sales initiative which will launch on Monday and run until Friday, giving regular travelers the opportunity to snap up the lowest fare levels on all the airline’s routes out of Dar es Salaam, i.e. Johannesburg, Lusaka, Harare and Entebbe but also the domestic services to Kilimanjaro, Mwanza and Mbeya.
Watch this space for breaking and regular aviation news from the wider Eastern African region.
