FASTJET’S MAY FIGURES UP BY OVER 50 PERCENT YEAR ON YEAR

May was a good month for Fastjet PLC as well as for Fastjet (Tanzania).
Fastjet PLC announced significant progress in reaching operational status in Zimbabwe and in preparation for that launch ordered another, their fourth Airbus A319. Sources close to the airline also confirmed yesterday that negotiations for the airline’s fifth Airbus A319 are already at an advanced stage.
Fastjet in Tanzania too had reason to smile when their year on year figures showed an increase of 52 percent in passenger numbers, making them the largest airline in Tanzania in terms of passengers carried as well as in terms of international destinations served, offering flights to Johannesburg, Lusaka, Harare and Entebbe.
In May 2014 did Fastjet uplift some 42.977 passengers compared to May 2015 when this figure rose to 65.118, resulting in a 70 percent average loadfactor. On time performance remained high with 94 percent of all departures taking off in time or within 15 minutes of the scheduled ETD.
On a rolling over 12 month basis was the increase even more impressive, rising by a staggering 76 percent to 716.350 passengers compared to the year prior with 407.908 passengers.
Ed Winter, Chief Executive Officer of Fastjet plc, said: ‘Once again, Fastjet Tanzania has achieved considerable passenger growth year-on-year. This is particularly pleasing as we approach the busy summer period during which we have added more capacity on certain routes to meet expected demand’.
The airline last week released their latest flight schedule until September, as was reported here at the time.
