‘PROVE YOURSELF FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR MORE‘ IS THE PUBLIC SENTIMENT IN #ZIMBABWE
(Posted 23rd February 2018)
Information has emerged, as per the letter shown above, that FlyAfrica seems to push to get landing rights for the Harare to Bulawayo route.
Also waiting for a decision of ZCAA is Fastjet, which, in contrast to FlyAfrica, has proven their reliability over a long period of time, flying between Harare to both Johannesburg and to Victoria Falls.
Fastjet, a company quoted on the London Stock Exchange, is one of Africa’s leading Low Cost Carriers and has last year earned top accolades like Best Low Cost Airline in Africa by the World Travel Awards and a similar recognition by Skytrax, the world’s leading airline ranking system.
Aviation pundits in Zimbabwe and southern Africa have expressed serious reservations, suggesting ZCAA should play it safe and hand the landing rights for Bulawayo to a company with proven capacity rather than an upstart which has had a rocky road with flight cancellations – very sadly very similar to the first edition of Fly Africa which went out of business in late 2015.

Travel and safari operators too have thrown their weight behind Fastjet and expressed confidence that should the LCC get the traffic rights fares between Harare and Bulawayo would come down for the duration while services would be reliable and dependable.
It remains to be seen how the Zimbabwe Civil Aviation Authority will decide but public opinion is stacked in favour of Fastjet rather than FlyAfrica.
