(Posted 25th October 2018)
With the launch on the 23rd of October of daily flights between Dubai and Helsinki, the Finnish capital city, have suddenly new markets opened up for the airline’s destinations in Africa and in particular the tourism destinations in Eastern Africa.
Entebbe / Uganda as well as Kilimanjaro, Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar are suddenly within reach at low cost fares for passengers flying out of Helsinki and connecting in Dubai for their onward flights. The same applies of course also for passengers from Eastern Africa wanting to travel to Finland.
The new daily flight is operated by a brand new Boeing B737MAX8 which features the latest cabin standards of FlyDubai with flatbed seats in Business Class and an enhance Economy Class cabin.
Emirates, FlyDubai’s sister airline, will code share on the service.
Thierry Aucoc, Senior Vice President, Commercial at Emirates, said: “This new route is an exciting development for Emirates, flydubai, Finland and the UAE. Through our partnership with flydubai, passengers from destinations on Emirates’ network such as Shanghai, Tokyo, Beijing, Hong Kong, Thailand or Delhi, can easily connect to Finland with one stop in Dubai. We look forward to witnessing flydubai’s success in Finland.”
FlyDubai’s route network in Europe includes 27 destinations in Bosnia, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, now Finland, Greece, Italy, the Republic of North Macedonia, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Turkey and Ukraine.
The expansion into Scandinavia may suggest a shift of focus as far as Western European destinations are concerned which the airline has so far chosen not to serve, only flying to the fringes of the European Union.
