PAY FINE OR GO TO JAIL FORMER AIR TANZANIA CEO TOLD BY MAGISTRATE

Guilty as charged did a Tanzanian Magistrate find former Air Tanzania CEO David Mattaka before ordering him to pay a fine of 35 million Tanzania Shillings or else face 6 years in jail.
He, with others in court also convicted of the same charges, was also ordered to refund the company over 140.000 US Dollars for the purchase of unserviceable motor vehicles several years ago.
This landmark ruling has finally put an end to the impunity and incompetence displayed by former Air Tanzania managers who cost the company and the country dearly as they indebted the airline to the point of near insolvency, only surviving in the past on regular government handouts of tax payers money.
One William Haji, former auditor at ATCL, was however acquitted of all charges as the prosecution failed to prove their case against him.
