RHINO BABY 24 IS BORN ON THE ZIWA RHINO SANCTUARY IN #UGANDA
(Posted 11th August 2018)
Good news came in this morning from the Rhino Fund Uganda that another rhino calf was born yesterday, the 19th since the sanctuary was established in the early part of the century.
Parents Bella and Moja – both of the original six introduced to the sanctuary from the Solio Game Reserve in Kenya – are now 18 years old and the latest birth brings Bella’s number of ‘children‘ to six overall.
There are now a total of 24 rhinos on the Ziwa Sanctuary from the humble beginning of two breeding pairs, later boosted by a donation from Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Florida to six adults, making a visit to Ziwa an absolute must for tourists coming to Uganda.
Located enroute between Kampala and Murchison Falls National Park is entry to the sanctuary free of charge though tracking the rhinos, mostly on foot in the company of rangers, attracts a nominal donation to keep the sanctuary running.
The Uganda Wildlife Authority has, in recognition of the success of the sanctuary and its Executive Director Angie Genade, also announced that Angie will be made an Honorary Game Warden in a ceremony due to be held next week.
