George Sambali appointed new CEO at Tanzania Airport Authority

TANZANIA AIRPORT AUTHORITY GETS NEW DIRECTOR GENERAL

(Posted 27th January 2016)

The Tanzanian government reacted with due haste in appointing a new Director General for the Tanzania Airport Authority, following the death of Mr. Suleiman Said Suleiman ten days ago, as was reported here.

It is understood that Mr. George Sambali was moved from his position as CEO of the Julius Nyerere International Airport to the position as DG at the Tanzania Airports Authority, clearly aiming to fill the gap swiftly and avoid any vacuum at TAA.

The 51 year old Sambali worked at TAA since 2011 and holds several diplomas and degrees in aviation related fields.

Tanzania has over the past few years embarked on an aggressive infrastructure modernization of aviation facilities across the country with the new terminal at the country’s main international airport, JNIA due to open later this year, more than tripling the present passenger capacity. Other airports like Mbeya too have seen expansion and upgrading of the facilities, allowing for instance Fastjet to fly twice a day from Dar es Salaam as a result. Other airports like Mtwara too are earmarked for and upgrade.
