DISCOVER GONDAR – ONCE UPON A TIME THE CAPITAL OF IMPERIAL ETHIOPIA

Gondar, a city founded in 1636 by then Emperor Fassiladas, was for some time the capital of imperial Ethiopia and is today a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Ethiopian Holidays, a division of Ethiopian Airlines, is now making visits to that famous city possible by offering 1 night and 2 day packages for visitors to Ethiopia, enriching a shorter or longer stayover in Addis Ababa with a tour into Ethiopia’s past.
Back in its day was Gondar a centre in Africa for Art, Culture and Literature, all signs of how refined a society imperial Ethiopia already was hundreds of years ago.
Today does the city offer several ancient attractions to visitors, such as the fortress Fasil Ghebbi, the Fasiledes Bath and the Debre Berhan Selassie church. Also much worth visiting are Iyasu’s Palace, Dawit’s Hall and the Mentewab’s Palace, all dating back into the late 17th and early 18th century.
Tour prices start from 380 US Dollars for one person, flight, ground transport, accommodation, meals and English speaking guide services included (net and non commissionable) but go as low as 213 US Dollars per person if traveling in a group of 15 or more. A single room supplement of 25 US Dollars applies.
Guides with additional language skills are available for hire at 240 US Dollars and offer their services in Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, German and French if required.
Wannabe visitors intending to go to Gondar during the updoming Meskel celebrations, which take place between the 21st and 30th of September, are advised to book as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
