‘THE WORLD’ DUE IN SEYCHELLES FOR A THREE DAY PORT CALL
(Posted 25th February 2015)
A regular source from the Seychelles’ capital Victoria has confirmed that ‘The World’, a unique cruiseliner, will be on port call from 26th to 28th of February inclusive.
After initially docking at port Victoria on the main island of Mahe will the cruiseship then visit the islands of La Digue and Praslin, before ‘setting sail’ again.
The ship, which was built 13 years ago, comprises only 165 ‘Residences’ which are all owned by individuals or companies. Ground handling will be provided throughout the visit by 70 South, one of the Seychelles’ leading DMC’s.
The Seychelles has been at the forefront for cruise companies to return to this part of the Indian Ocean and sail the waters from the South African ports of Durban or Port Elizabeth to the Vanilla Islands like Reunion, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mayotte, the Comoros and of course the Seychelles, with port calls on the African mainland in between.
STB, the Seychelles Tourism Board, has been actively participating in dedicated tourism trade shows dedicated to cruises, assuring cruise line executives of safe operations after defeating the Somali pirates.
Even a one day port visit is able to inject, depending on the size of the ship, hundreds of thousands of US Dollars into the local economy thought his amount is thought to go into amounts over a million US Dollars a day for larger vessels.
A week ago did the Seychelles’ Minister for Tourism and Culture, Alain St. Ange, deliver a lecture about the archipelago’s attractions on board the ship while he was in the Maldives, which is also a member of the Vanilla Islands’ organization. The World then left the next day for the Seychelles.
