IT IS 16 CHEFS VYING FOR THE SILVERCHEF HAT THIS YEAR

It is a month and a week to go to the second edition of the www.gorillahighlands.com chef competition and nominations have been halted after a total of 16 qualified chefs from the Gorilla Highlands area, this year expanded to the Rwandan side of the border up to Musanze, have been accepted by the organizing committee.
The 16 will be allocated in two groups of 8 each to test their culinary skills against the others before the judges then render their verdicts for what this year will be starters, main course and dessert, a widened scope recognizing the level of competence and skills attained by chefs in this scenic part of East Africa.
Miha Logar, the brain behind the competition and main driver of marketing the Gorilla Highlands, told this correspondent in the morning: ‘We intend to make Silverchef the gathering of everyone who matters in the Gorilla Highlands region from both sides of the border. While chefs will have to report to Kabale Town on 27th of May 2016 in the evening, the programme for other representatives’ will start at lunch time on 28th of May. The final ceremony will be that evening on Saturday, 28th of May‘.
With keen interest on both sides of the border will the competition in 2017, after the inaugural event in Kisoro last year and the 2016 event being held in Kabale, very likely move to the Rwandan town of Musanze, where a large number of hotels and lodges has sprung up in recent years, all of course serving as a base for the gorilla tracking, for the exploration of the Royal sites near Musanze and for those daring enough, the Musanze Caves, now open for the past two years.
