Grassroot sports and fun events attract Sheraton support

KIDS OF AFRICA FUN RUN AND ULTIMATE FRISBEE CHALLENGE GET SHERATON SUPPORT

(Posted 10th September 2014)

Kids of Africa, a Swiss initiative, is a children’s home operating in Uganda. It takes care of 94 abandoned kids in ten family homes, each headed by a foster mother. Kids of Africa is raising the children to become the core of the next generation of Ugandan society and then in turn contribute to improve the futures of similarly disadvantaged youngsters. To raise funds for the school project, and to celebrate their 9th anniversary, Kids of Africa is organising the 4th Edition ‘Run for Fun’ on Sunday 05th October 2014. The inaugural run in 2011 was a success, with over 300 runners of all ages participating while in 2012 there were over 500 runners participating already. This year over 1.000 runners are expected to build on last year’s event when 780 runners registered. As previously, the races will be organized by Activate Uganda Ltd, the country’s leading professional sports event & timing management company. As with earlier editions, the starting point will be from Kids of Africa at Bwerenga (Wakiso District) which is 4km from Kawuku, 24km along the main road to Entebbe when coming from Kampala.

There will be 5km, 10km and 21km races, with age categories: Under 10 (5km only), 10-14, 15-18, 19-49, 50+. As well as being challenging, the routes take runners through local countryside, villages and have great views over Lake Victoria.

Also taking place on the 05th of October is the Ultimate Frisbee Challenge, a tournament now in its 8th year and bringing together teams from Uganda and the wider region.

The Uganda Ultimate Frisbee Association (UUFA) has again invited teams for their annual international tournament taking place on 04th and 05th of October in Kampala. Teams from the entire East African region and participants from all over the world are expected to take part in this sporting and fun event. For more details contact: ugandaultimate
