AND THE TRAVEL OSCARS GO TO …
(Posted 06th September 2014)
Kenya once again took the lion’s share of the World Travel Awards for the Eastern African region with an overall number of 15, followed by Tanzania with 7 awards, two of which went to Zanzibar and then Uganda, which emerged with two awards overall from the global competition which every year determines the very best Africa has to offer, from airlines over hotels, to resorts, safari lodges and destination attractions.
The Kenya Tourism Board, for the third year running, emerged as Africa’s best Tourism Board while The Pride of Africa retained their trophy for Best Business Class in Africa. Diani Beach, also mentioned often here before, took the honours as Africa’s Leading Beach Destination, defying all the anti-travel advisories Kenya has suffered from over the past year. The Masai Mara Game Reserve emerged as Africa’s Leading National Park. Gamewatcher Safaris and Porini Safari Camps deservedly also once again bagged the top prize for Africa’s Leading Tented Safari Company. Twiga Tours of Kenya earned the honours for the Responsible Tourism Award and the Finch Hatton’s Camp in Tsavo West topped the competition when receiving the trophy as Africa’s Leading Safari Lodge.
The Leopard Beach Resort & Spa and Sarova Hotels each bagged three awards, the Enashipai Resort & Spa on the shores of Lake Naivasha retained their title as Kenya’s best Spa resort and Carlson Wagon Lits Kenya walked away with a respectable two prices still. Notably did the Villa Rosa Kempinski bag the accolades for the Kenya’s Leading Hotel Suite, a price the Lake Victoria Serena Resort & Spa took for Uganda.

As already reported last night about the Leopard Beach Resort & Spa did all the winners, some faster than others, begin to tell the good news but none had the complete list for East Africa published as is now happening here.
Sadly though did Rwanda and Burundi not feature in this year’s list of winners from East Africa, something the leading hotels there will no doubt want to remedy for future World Travel Award ceremonies.
Congratulations again to all the winners who made East Africa proud to feature very prominently once again in the 21st edition of the World Travel Awards.
