Hello Rodrigues, the new digital magazine dedicated to the island splendor of Rodrigues, is poised to
make its entrance into the media scene and the tourism universe. Born from Laura
Samoisy’s fervent passion for the world of tourism, this innovative project materialized following a
series of opportunities and striking realizations regarding the insufficient visibility of this gem in the
Indian Ocean.
For Laura Samoisy, a native of the small village of Champ-Baptiste in Rodrigues, now residing in the
Paris region for six years and a former journalist at 5-Plus Dimanche of La Sentinelle Ltd group, it all
began with the promotion of the Rodrigues International Kitesurfing Festival 2023. This was
followed by notable recognition from the tourism commission and the Rodrigues Tourism Office.
Invited to spearhead the destination’s communication at the prestigious IFTM TOP RESA fair at Porte de Versailles, Paris last October, Laura Samoisy seized the opportunity to go beyond mere
promotion, nurturing the ambition to create a true digital showcase for her native Rodrigues.
With a team of ten passionate professionals, including writers, photographers, a marketing manager,
an art director, and a renowned stylist and makeup artist, Hello Rodrigues aims to become the
standard-bearer for this Mascarene Island among Mauritians, other Indian Ocean Islands, in French-
speaking African countries, and beyond, notably in France, Belgium, Switzerland, and Canada.
The magazine, available for free from January 10th on the website Hellorodrigues.fr (currently under
construction), positions itself as an essential digital platform, offering an immersive dive into the
richness and beauty of Rodrigues. By emphasizing the promotion of local tourism stakeholders, Hello
Rodrigues presents itself as their spokesperson, offering an ecologically aligned vision reflecting the
island’s values, notably through its ‘Action Ecolo’ section.
Beyond discovering Rodrigues, each issue will spotlight neighboring Mauritius with its ‘Mauritius
Getaway’ section, unveiling hotels, attractions, and tips. A dedicated section to the Indian Ocean will also be present to explore other island jewels, fostering solidarity among the Vanilla Islands. For this
inaugural edition, the editorial team will take you to Mayotte, which became a French Overseas Department on March 31, 2011. Finally, the ‘Travel Journal’ section will open the doors to Europe’s
most enchanting places, with a debut immersion into the atmosphere of the Christmas Markets in
the capital city of Paris.
‘We are convinced that Hello Rodrigues will establish itself as a must-have in every home in Rodrigues, Mauritius, the Indian Ocean islands, and in all French-speaking countries‘ declared Laura Samoisy, the magazine’s founder.
