Sustainable Skies, Connected Africa: A New Era for African Aviation

We are pleased to share the Special Edition Newsletter covering the highlights of the 57th AFRAA Annual General Assembly (AGA) held recently in Luanda, Angola.

Hosted by TAAG Angola Airlines under the theme “Sustainable Skies, Connected Africa,” this year’s assembly gathered 516 delegates from 49 countries to shift the industry’s focus from post-pandemic recovery to structural reform and sustainable growth.

Key Industry Milestones

This edition covers critical developments that will shape the future of our skies:

Free Route Airspace (FRA) Goes Live: We celebrate a major milestone with the full operational deployment of FRA in the West and Central Africa (WACAF) region, allowing for User Preferred Routes that reduce fuel burn and CO2 emissions.

Launch of Africa MRO Event: AFRAA has announced a new initiative to strengthen maintenance capabilities across the continent, reducing reliance on external services. The inaugural event is set for March 2026 in Addis Ababa.

Sustainable Aviation Fuel Alliance: AFRAA and AfriSAF have signed a strategic MoU to accelerate the development and supply chain of SAF in Africa.

Strategic Connectivity: TAAG Angola Airlines and South African Airways have launched a new codeshare agreement, linking networks via Luanda, Johannesburg, and Cape Town.
