#SEYCHELLES BREAKS NEW GROUND IN GROWING CORALS
(Posted 15th August 2018)
While the Hilton Northolme on the Seychelles main island of Mahe has recently launched a new snorkeling trail, giving guests the opportunity to see the key attractions of the close by coral reef over a distance of 650 metres, are news emerging that ground breaking work has been underway in the Seychelles to grow corals in ‘coral nurseries‘.
First reported about it on ATCNews.org in February, when Lisa Booyse, one of the owners of Chalets Forbans passed the information, has additional information come to light that the growing of corals goes back a lot further.

Nature Seychelles has launched a research project in 2010 and can by now show significant success, giving hope to other parts of the world where coral reefs are under threat of extinction.
Nirmal Shah, the CEO of Nature Seychelles, confirmed that since then over 50.000 coral fragments have been grown and been ‘planted‘ on one particular in the Seychelles, covering an area of over 6.000 square metres around the nature reserve of Cousin Island. The new corals have so far a survival rate of some 95 percent, generally seen as a near perfect result.
Besides the underwater nurseries have two been established on land, one as reported in February at Hilton’s DoubleTree brand Allamanda Hotel and a second one at Le Meridien’s Fisherman’s Cove. The Le Meridien is part of Marriott International’s Starwood brands.
