Hook, line and sinker in the Seychelles

You’ve thrown in the bait and now you sit back and relax while you wait for the big one to bite while you bask in the unending sunshine of your holiday destination. The Seychelles is one of the most breathtaking fishing destinations in the world. The 115 islands that make up the Seychelles, and the 1.4 million square kilometres of ocean that surrounds them, offers some of the richest and most diverse fishing grounds on earth.

The main inner islands lie on a shallow plateau with depths averaging around 50m, and the waters are abundant with tuna, bonito, Dorado, wahoo and sailfish. At the edge of this plateau, known as ‘the drop-off’, the ocean floor drops to 2000m, with a greater variety of fish on offer, and with it better chances at encountering marlin and larger trophy fish.

The fishing opportunities that present themselves to fishermen in the Seychelles are simply amazing. From big game fishing, fly fishing, jigging and popping and so much more. You will find tour guides who are knowledgeable and passionate and who can offer a wealth of experience fishing these waters.

For the best fly fishing spot, the Alphonse atolls provide the fly-fishing experience of a lifetime. The unrivaled diversity of fish species means that the atolls are home to incredibly large populations of not only Bonefish, but also 3 different types of Triggerfish, Barracuda, Snapper, Grouper, Permit, Parrotfish, 8 species of Trevally (including the Giant Trevally), and the incomparable Milkfish.

The island of Praslin has some of the best spots for Jigging which is fishing with a jig, a type of lure, and Popping which a fishing technique using bait called poppers.

No matter what the season, or where you are in the Seychelles, you can be guaranteed a fishing experience like no other.
