SEYCHELLES DEVELOPS CRITERIA FOR HOTEL RATINGS
(Posted 23rd May 2016)
The Seychelles, with support from UNWTO, is now in the final stage of developing criteria to be used when ranking and rating hotels and resorts across the archipelago.
Dialogue with the private sector has been ongoing over this plan and come 2017 will the Ministry of Tourism begin to kickstart the process with trained inspectors then visiting properties and assessing which star rating each and every one of them deserve.
It is understood that UNWTO has sent a consultant with wide experience on such complex issues to Mahe to provide guidance and support in this last crucial phase before the regulations will then be presented to the private sector for a final lookover before the implementation stage.
Meanwhile is it understood that those of the Vanilla Islands – some of them already have criteria for rating and ranking in place – without an internationally recognized system of hotel classification, may seek similar support or else could absorb part or all of the regulations now being developed by the Seychelles.
