We’re back now with more details on how our agenda for Safety and Flight Ops Conference is shaping up, and we’re excited to share some highlights of the event. Let’s make no mistake, Safety is what this conference is all about, so let’s take a look at some of our most compelling features at this year’s SFO.
DAY 1: DISCUSSING AIRCRAFT AUTOMATION WITH THE PILOTS
Our main feature on the afternoon of Day 1 is all about Aircraft Automation and whether pilots are in danger of “automation complacency”. Bringing together pilots, manufacturers and safety experts, Captain John Monks, Head of Aviation Safety at British Airways leads the session as we examine what’s at risk and what might need to change.
Malcolm Ridley, Lead Safety Test Pilot at Airbus, will start the discussion with a good understanding of Today’s Automated Flight Deck. Dr. Kathy Abbott, Chief Scientific and Technical Advisor for Flight Deck Human Factors at the FAA, Rudy Quevedo, Director of Safety, IATA and Rick Howell, General Manager, Group Safety and Operational Risk atCathay Pacific Airways get together to introduce us to the Accident Causal Factors and Human Factors at Play. Captain Patrick Magisson, Executive Vice President, Technical and Safety Standards at IFALPA, adds The Pilot’s Voiceto the discussion. We’re especially looking forward to the final panel discussion investigating The Way Forward.
DAY 2: THE SFO BISTRO IS BACK!
The afternoon of Day 2 sees the return of the SFO Bistro, introduced last year, where experts and attendees “speed network” around hot topic discussion tables. This year’s lineup has 15 topics to choose from, but you’ll only have time for 6!
Don’t miss theEvidence-Based Fatigue Risk Management table, where we’ll be sharing our experiences of using data to deal with crew fatigue. The Safety Culture table is another one to put on your list – with the first amendment to Annex 19 upcoming in November 2019, you’ll want to learn from those who are already implementing a positive safety culture, or give the benefit of your experience to your industry colleagues. This year’s IOSA table covers Effective Implementation of ISARPs (IOSA Standards and Recommended Practices), with an IATA subject matter expert giving answers to your most pressing questions. Join us to share what you may have learned.
We round up on Day 3 with a look at The Increasing Threat of Turbulence. But more on that to come very soon.
