The industry’s success hinges on diversifying strategies and fostering a sustainable foundation for long-term growth. Continued emphasis on captivating the domestic audience remains crucial, addressing visa regulations, enhancing infrastructure and improving connectivity are pivotal factors that will determine the continent’s ability to capitalize on the burgeoning tourism potential.
WTTC REPORT SHOWS HOW TRAVEL & TOURISM IN AFRICA COULD BOOST CONTINENT’S ECONOMY BY US$168BN OVER NEXT 10 YEARS
At its Global Summit, the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), in collaboration with VFS Global, revealed that the African Travel & Tourism sector could add US$168BN to the continent’s economy and create over 18 million new jobs. According to the report, ‘Unlocking Opportunities for Travel & Tourism Growth in Africa’, this potential growth is dependent on three key policies to unlock annualised growth of 6.5%, reaching a contribution of more than US$ 350BN.
AIRBNB’S PLEDGE: SUPPORTING INCLUSIVE AND SUSTAINABLE TOURISM ACROSS AFRICA
As part of the Africa Travel Summit, Airbnb announced the Africa Pledge, a renewed commitment and USD $500,000 fund to support inclusive and sustainable tourism growth across the continent. Over the next two years, the pledge will help governments and tourism organisations across Africa to identify and unlock new tourism opportunities; support Hosts and guests, and their communities; empower the next generation of tourism entrepreneurs; and support investment in the tourism ecosystem.
