TRAINING 10.000 OVER THE NEXT FIVE YEARS THE AIM OF A NEW CRASH PROGRAMME IN RWANDA
(Posted 20th November 2017)
Information has been received from Kigali that a training crash programme is in the making to uplift the service standards in the Rwandan hospitality and tourism industry. Already five years ago was this at the core of the deliberations as an article written in March 2012 (link below) affirms, then followed up by other initiatives towards the same objective.
Up to ten thousand staff, both career entrants as well as the workforce already deployed but in need to attain greater skills in their profession, are the target through certificate and diploma courses.
The initiative, it is understood, is a flanking measure to raise service standards in line with the country’s ambition to become a luxury tourism destination.
While hotel companies like Serena, Marriott and Carlson Rezidor – which manages the Radisson Blu and Park Inn in Kigali – extend regular training to their staff are many locally owned and managed properties clearly more challenged to introduce in house training programmes and therefore depend more on initiatives like the one now going underway.
A familiar face will reportedly head the programme and more about that when intake numbers and a programme curriculum and course contents have been confirmed.
