IMMERSE YOURSELF IN ONE OF AFRICA’S LAST TRUE WILDERNESS AREAS.

Tawana is due to open in May 2024 and will form part of Natural Selection’s portfolio of high-end lodges, joining Jack’s CampTuludi and North Island Okavango to create an enviable circuit of characterful premium quality lodges and camps across northern Botswana.

Created together with Chief Tawana Moremi, the paramount chief of the Batawana tribe, this new camp is set in the shade of towering ebony trees on the banks of the Gomoti River in the iconic Moremi Game Reserve.

Chief Tawana’s forefathers were instrumental in conserving the wilderness of northern Botswana when, in 1963, his father and grandmother took the visionary step to set aside much of their ancestral hunting grounds to protect the wildlife and help establish the Moremi Game Reserve.

Today this reserve is one of the most productive areas in Botswana for game viewing and the area around Tawana in particular offers incredible concentrations of wildlife. With a very high density of predators including wild dog, leopard, and lion, together with the bounty of creatures who form part of this exceptionally rich eco-system, guests will enjoy some of the best land based game-viewing Botswana has to offer.

Tawana offers a high level of comfort, luxury and style. Its 8 expansive guest suites (including two spacious family rooms) are air-conditioned over beds, with their own lounge, private terrace, plunge pool, outdoor sala and uninterrupted views of the Gomoti river and surrounding game rich grasslands. The camp is also 100% solar powered, with 24-hour electricity in the rooms.

The main area in camp is atmospheric, with an elegant lounge, indoor and outdoor dining spaces, as well as a curated library filled with reference works on the history of Moremi Game Reserve and the local Batawana tribe. A walk-in wine cellar, wood-fire pizza oven and an open-air dining kgotla, all add to the Tawana culinary experience. For down-time between game activities, Tawana will include an intimate spa facility offering a bespoke menu of facial and body treatments, and holistic wellness journeys. A well-equipped gym and 16-metre lap pool will help guests stay in shape whilst travelling.

As an introductory offer for any guests staying two nights or more at Tawana, we will include two free helicopter transfers to/from anywhere in the Delta, Linyanti or Maun (valid for the 2024 rate season). The Makgadikgadi Pans, Chobe and Kasane are excluded. Guests travelling to/from these locations should make their way to Maun or the Khwai Private Reserve Airstrip and we can organise the helicopter transfer to/from Tawana accordingly.

Tawana, born out of the many layers of Okavango Delta history, is a camp that not only pays tribute to the Batawana people who have protected this wildlife area for centuries, but it is also a camp of abundant wildlife and unforgettable landscapes offering a rich diversity for guests to discover.
