Israel’s El Al set to return to Kenya

EL AL TO RESUME FLIGHTS FROM TEL AVIV TO NAIROBI

(Posted 12th June 2014)

Some 12 years since pulling out of Kenya in the wake of an attempted rocket attack against an Israeli charter aircraft in Mombasa are news emerging that El Al, Israel’s national airline, will finally resume flights to Nairobi from December this year onwards.

Aviation sources from Nairobi have received confirmation that the forthcoming visit by Israel’s Foreign Minister to Kenya later this week will set the stage to sign the agreement, among several other bilateral deals.

The Kenya Airport Authority has recently entered in to a major deal with an Israeli company to improve aviation security at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, a factor which no doubt played an important role in the decision by El Al to resume flights, being able to trust the measure being put into place in line with similar security features already in use in Tel Aviv.

The new airlink will allow Israeli tourists wishing to visit Kenya to reach the destinations with ease while Kenyans and passengers from East Africa will from December onwards also find it easier again to fly to Israel for pilgrimage visits to the Holy Land and sites inside Israel and across the demarcation line to Bethlehem and other sites inside Palestine.
