KWS SUSPENDS 5 TOP OFFICIALS AS THE ORGANIZATION STARTS TO CRACK DOWN ON ERRANT STAFF

Information received late yesterday from Nairobi confirmed the usual grapevine talk that the Kenya Wildlife Service has sent 5 top officials on ‘compulsory leave’ and called for a press conference on Friday morning.
A media brief named the affected officials as the Head of Procurement Christopher Oludhe, the Deputy Director in charge of Security Julius Kimani, the Deputy Director Corporate Services Tom Sipul, the Deputy Director Finance and Administration William Waweru and the Head of Finance Wesley Idanda.
The nature of the allegations could not be established and it is not known if there is a direct link with the recent increase in poaching across the country of elephants and rhinos, but going after senior staff clearly signals a toughening of the organization’s attitude, while of course absolute zero tolerance to all infringements should be the order of the day.
The Principal Secretary of the cabinet office of Environment and Natural Resources, under which the Kenya Wildlife Service falls at present, will face the media at 10 a.m. on Friday morning to answer questions, no doubt related to the breaking news of sending 5 top officials on forced leave but, according to additional information received, also to address a number of other hot topics of how the government and KWS are planning to get a handle on the rise in poaching and what added measures will be put in place to stem the tide.
