JAMBOJET’S REGIONAL EXPANSION PLANS TAKE SHAPE

When Jambojet’s next two Bombardier Q400’s join their fleet – the airline presently operates this aircraft type alongside a Boeing B737-300 leased from parent company Kenya Airways – will the stage be set for the low cost airline to roll out new destinations in the Eastern African region.
Entebbe was among several airports named some time ago when Jambojet applied for a variation in their Kenyan air services licence, which was granted by the authorities in May this year.
Information is now emerging that this could materialise as soon as the end of the first quarter of 2018 though regulatory approvals from the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority are still to be finalized before flights can be launched.
Kenya Airways presently flies 5 times a day between Nairobi and Entebbe and it is likely that Jambojet will add a further daily frequency to the route to start with. No information could be obtained if these flights might be operated in codeshare with parent Kenya Airways or if they will be entirely separate from KQ’s operation.

Two weeks ago, when reporting about the new Q400 order, was there also speculation that the airline could return their B737’s to Kenya Airways and become an all Bombardier operator which would see the services to Entebbe use an all economy 78 seat turboprop instead of a jet.
Also on Jambojet’s horizon are Dar es Salaam, Addis Ababa, Kilimanjaro, Zanzibar, Kigali and Juba, among other destinations.
