SOUTH SUDAN REOPENS INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
(Posted 19th July 2020)
Scheduled passenger flights have resumed from several destinations to Juba International Airport. Besides Ethiopian Airlines from Addis Ababa are Egypt Air from Cairo and FlyDubai from Dubai back on the route as is Sudan’s Badr Airlines.
South Sudan demands from passengers that they undergo a 14 day quarantine as well as produce a recent health certificate. Face masks must also be worn by arriving passengers.
It is expected that Kenya Airways and RwandAir will resume flights too when their relaunch international flights, which has been set for 01st of August.
Uganda Airlines, which has been serving Juba twice a day before the pandemic, is still sidelined by their own government’s failure to announce a date when international scheduled passenger flights can resume to and from Entebbe.
One Response
Quarantine is a demand killer. Keeping borders closed prolongs the pain by causing economic hardship well beyond airlines. If governments want to re-start their tourism sectors, alternative risk-based measures are needed. Many are built into the ICAO Take-off guidelines, like health screening before departure to discourage symptomatic people from traveling. Airlines are helping this effort with flexible rebooking policies. – Alexandre de Juniac, IATA’s Director General and CEO.
