The management and staff at the Kampala Serena Hotel, after the government decreed lockdown for hospitality facilities has come to an end, is preparing for the reopening of the hotel which is due to happen tomorrow, 01st of July.

Extensive training sessions were held ahead of that date to prepare all staff for the ‘new normal‘ of how to work in a health and hygiene conscious environment across the hotel’s operations.

Besides being trained on the use of personal protective equipment when at work, increased hygiene and alertness towards the symptoms caused by the pandemic outbreak, is guest interaction high on the agenda.

From the main gate to the security check at the main entrance to check in are all elements of guest interaction practiced and practiced again. Security personnel, concierge staff, front office staff and housekeeping staff have all undergone training to keep guests and themselves safe and the same applies to the staff in kitchens and the restaurants.

In the back of house area, like receiving goods, the laundry department and other key operational departments, is physical distancing practiced and implemented across the board, all aimed at ultimately reassuring guests that the hotel is not only implementing Uganda’s new health and safety regulations and measures but also those Serena Hotels as a group has developed in line with international best practice – over and above minimum requirements.

(Physical distancing and extensive surface cleaning are now the ‘new normal

The new measures also include the work at the Kampala Serena Conference Centre, where events have been booked from this week forward already, to ensure physical distancing rules are upheld to ensure the safety of guests, conference and events participants, all of whom are required to wear prescribed face masks when entering the venue.
