Karl Hala, Austrian hotelier par excellence and well known to ATCNews readers across Eastern Africa, has been appointed as the new General Manager of the Ethiopian Skylight Hotel in Addis Ababa.
In his most recent position was Karl for several years GM at the Ole Sereni Hotel but has previously served for six years as the General Manager of the InterContinental Hotel in Nairobi alongside holding the position as Director of Africa Operations for IHG. Overall did Karl work for 35 years with the InterContinental Hotel Group.
He started his career in the hotel industry after graduating from the Vienna Hotel Academy.
The Ethiopian Skylight Hotel opened under Chinese management but it now appears that their style and direction was not entirely conducive to turning the new hotel into a true 5 star property, something the owners now expect Karl Hala to accomplish.
The Skylight Hotel is expected to more than double its capacity over the next few years, also offering additional meeting and conference facilities which is very similar to Karl’s previous position at the Ole Sereni, where he too drove the expansion of the hotel during his term of office.
This is in line with Ethiopia’s renewed push to become one of Africa’s leading tourism destinations and reclaiming lost ground as a continental MICE power.

ATCNews wishes Karl the very best in his new assignment and it looking forward to catching up in person when next passing through Addis Ababa.
