EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
The East African Wild Life Society (EAWLS), the region’s leading conservation Non-Governmental Organization whose mission is to promote the conservation and wise use of environment and wildlife in East Africa, is seeking to appoint a suitably qualified person to the position of the Executive Director.
Key Duties and responsibilities
The Executive Director is responsible to the EAWLS Board (the Board) for the overall executive administration and management of EAWLS affairs and will perform duties to include but not limited to the ones listed below.
· Developing and managing implementation of Policies Strategies and Programmes.
· Crafting and effecting a strong leadership in advocacy to influence public policy and opinion on wildlife and conservation issues,
· Planning and implementation of fundraising activities locally and internationally,
· Organizing and conducting membership drives locally and internationally,
· Spearheading effective communication to members and the public in regard to the Society’s work and achievements as well as facilitating the production and distribution of Swara,the flagship magazine of the Society,
· Managing Society finances in accordance with EAWLS financial regulations
· Providing the day to day administration of the offices and business of EAWLS,
· Facilitating the work of the Board’s Sub-committees
· Reporting regularly to the Chairman and to the Board on the affairs and management of EAWLS
· Serving as Secretary to the Board.
Qualifications, knowledge and experience
The successful candidate will need to demonstrate the following essential qualities:
· A degree from a reputable University;
· At least 5 years’ experience, working at a high level nationally and internationally in conservation, particularly in advocacy and programme work as well as in good institutional and commercial administration;
· Good connections with charitable trusts, foundations and individuals who share the mission of EAWLS,
· Ability to lead and collaborate in mobilising significant resources to adequately meet the operational requirements of EAWLS;
· Demonstrated competency in financial planning and control;
· The personality and presentational skills to form positive partnership with key actors in the conservation sector;
· Adaptability and an ability to learn, understand and deal with the technical aspects of wildlife conservation.

Salary/Benefits
A competitive remuneration package will be offered to the successful candidate who will be employed on a two-year renewable contract, subject to satisfactory performance.
