Kenya Airways comes fifth in Africa as Skytrax announces the 2014 rankings

SKYTRAX PUBLISHES LIST OF TOP RANKED AFRICAN AIRLINES

(Posted 22nd July 2014)

South African Airways, a member of Star Alliance, has again come out on top of the rankings for Africa’s airlines, followed this year by Air Mauritius. The Eastern African carriers Ethiopian Airlines, also a member of Star Alliance and Kenya Airways, the only African member of SkyTeam, came fourth and fifth respectively.

South African low cost carriers Mango and Kulula also made it into the top ten holding places eight and nine respectively with Reunion’s home airline Air Austral in tenth place claiming the last spot in the top ten list.

Nearly 19 million passengers were sampled in the survey which was conducted between August 2013 and May 2014, drawn from 105 nationalities while travelling to or from some 245 destinations around the world and in this case around Africa. Skytrax’s World Airline Awards are, unlike some others, based largely on passenger feedback with the arguably most extensive sampling of any of the major award schemes, making the results more accurate and more valuable for travelers to get the information they seek and not the information some airlines want them to get.

The announcements were made and the awards handed over at the Farnborough Air Show in the UK earlier this month.
