KENYA AIRWAYS READIES FOR LAUNCH OF ABUJA AND ZANZIBAR FLIGHTS

(Posted 09th May 2014)

Come June 06th will Kenya Airways launch the long awaited flights to the Nigerian capital city of Abuja, making it the airline’s 63rd destination in their growing network and closing another gap on the African map.

The just concluded World Economic Forum for Africa in Abuja brought the focus back to Nigeria’s political capital, whereas Lagos of course remains the economic powerhouse of the country and the most populous city of Africa’s most populous nation.

Initially there will be four flights a week between Nairobi and Abuja, leaving Nairobi every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, using a Boeing B737-700 aircraft for the 4.45 hrs long flight., before returning the same day to Nairobi from where a range of onward flights to the Gulf, India and Asia await connecting passengers.

From the 02nd of June onwards will Kenya Airways also return on the route to Zanzibar with a late evening departure from Nairobi. The daily service will leave the Kenyan capital at 22.30 hrs and arrive on Unguja, the main isle of Zanzibar, aka the Spice Island at 23.45 hrs using an Embraer E190. This flight will be operated in addition to two code-shared flights with Tanzania’s Precision Air which leave at 08.10 hrs and at 18.50 hrs daily using an ATR 42 or ATR 72 aircraft depending on loads.
