Kenya Airways joins hands with South Africa’s ‘kulula’ through a code share deal

KENYA AIRWAYS EXPANDS SOUTH AFRICAN DESTINATIONS THROUGH CODE SHARE DEAL WITH KULULA

(Posted 10th April 2014)

Aimed to open up South Africa for travelers arriving in Johannesburg with Kenya Airways, has the airline now signed a wide ranging code share agreement with South Africa’s innovative low cost carrier kulula, renowned for their often quirky commercials.

Kenya Airways’ will with immediate effect place their KQ code on all of kulula’s domestic destinations, which apart from Johannesburg include such destinations like Cape Town, Durban, George and East London, while the kulula code will now appear alongside Kenya Airways’ flight numbers from Johannesburg to Nairobi, giving them the added range to sell tickets all the way to East Africa.

Gerard Clarke, Kenya Airways’ Commercial Director, commented: ‘We are confident that our respective customers will benefit from the partnership by providing them with more convenient booking and travel options within South Africa. We are excited to be working with kulula and look forward to further expanding the relationship to include more travel options in the future’ while kulula’s Stuart Cochrane responded: ‘The code share agreement with Kenya Airways is an extension of the interline agreement we entered into in 2013 and is in line with kulula’s medium-to-long term strategy to grow our distribution footprint in Africa in a sustainable manner whilst at the same time providing more choice for our customers’.

Main beneficiaries will be passengers, from both South Africa and Kenya, which will see the range of destination suddenly leap forward, opening up multiple additional airports which can now be reached.
