(Posted 05th June 2017)

Effective immediately have EgyptAir, notably a Star Alliance member, and Kenya Airways, a member of SkyTeam, signed a codeshare agreement under which a KQ flight number will now be attached to the four weekly flights between Cairo and Nairobi, operated by Egypt’s national airline.
It is understood that onward connections too are part of the deal, with Kenya Airways offering EgyptAir access to Lusaka, Harare, Dar es Salaam and Mombasa while in turn EgyptAir will provide onward flights to Istanbul.
Said Sebastian Mikosz, who at the beginning of the month took over as CEO and Group Managing Director of Kenya Airways: ‘As COMESA member countries this partnership enhances bilateral trade as well as enabling both airlines to offer seamless connectivity between Kenya and Egypt, especially for our customers in the region who mainly travel for business and leisure‘.
In turn did the Chairman of Egypt Air Mr. Safwat Musallam respond: ‘As a member of AFRAA since 1968 has Egypt Air initiated the partnership with Kenya Airways as a foundation for future commercial operational opportunities for both airlines‘.
Kenya Airways dropped flights to Cairo and Istanbul in 2013 when flights to both destinations were suspended.
