KENYA WANTS TO BE BOLLYWOOD’S FILM DESTINATION OF CHOICE

Kenya seeks to entice leading bollywood production companies into the country to explore diverse and premier shooting destination for their upcoming movies.
Speaking during the just concluded India International Film Tourism Conclave (IIFTC) in India, Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) Director Dr. Mohanjeet Brar noted that Kenya was endowed with some outstanding shooting locations waiting to be explored by the Indian film makers.
‘Kenya has what it takes to become a world’s preferred choice for filming and we invite film production companies to the country to shoot their movies‘ said Mohanjeet.
The conclave was attended by over 50 of the biggest production houses from Bollywood and other regional film industries.
Mohanjeet also said that Kenya has realized the potential of Indian movies in marketing the destination and as such KTB has partnered with IIFTC to expose the country as a potential destination for film making.
Besides a series of campaigns to lure the market, Kenya has hosted Indian film makers to promotional tours of diverse tourism products that Kenya has to offer presenting an opportunity for filmmakers to showcase the destination.
Over 80 international films have been shot entirely in Kenya many of which have won key international awards including Oscars.
India as one of the fastest growing tourist source markets to Kenya. The country is now ranked the third best performing market after US and UK and just ahead of Uganda, which is now Kenya’s fourth largest visitor source market. Last year, the Indian market recorded a growth of 28.85% with a total of 64,116 arrivals to Kenya up from 49,756 tourists in 2015.
Safari, white sand beaches, water sports, Golf and other unique natural treasures as some of the key pulling attractions for new-age Indian travellers to Kenya.
‘India is an important market for Kenya and we have proposed to invest more on other initiatives that would boost brand awareness through sports such as Cricket, MICE, golf as well as association with celebrities and other consumer brands‘, said Mohanjeet in closing.
