DOMESTIC AIR SERVICES EXPECTED TO RELAUNCH AS KENYA’S GOVERNMENT LIFTS COUNTY LOCKDOWN FOR NAIROBI AND MOMBASA

Following the announcement that the lockdown of both Nairobi and Mombasa county is to be lifted are domestic airlines making preparations for the relaunch of flights.
A number of safari lodges and camps, but also beach resorts, have already opened and will be ready to receive guests again when flights from for instance Wilson Airport resume to such destinations like Ukunda, Mombasa, Vipingo, Malindi and Lamu.
Also expected is a gradual ramp up of services into the national parks, where especially the Masai Mara is going to be a local tourism hotspot as the migration is underway and local tourists for once do not have to compete for available accommodation with international tourists.
It is understood that international flights are to resume on 01st of August but at present few destinations can be confirmed, as across Africa a large number of countries continues with their own lockdown and, like in the case of Uganda, no indication has been given as yet when the international airport in Entebbe will reopen.
For intercontinental flights will country specific rules apply though in the case of Europe an EU wide acceptance list of flights and travelers from beyond the Schengen area only has four African countries listed as of now, Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco and from sub Saharan Africa Rwanda.
Uganda and Kenya are not on the current list.
