NEW DATE SET FOR KENYA’S PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION RE-RUN
(Posted 21st September 2017)
‘We are alert but not alarmed‘ said a regular source from Nairobi a few minutes ago when passing the information that the initial date set by Kenya’s IEBC, short for Independent Election and Boundaries Commission has been pushed further into October. This indicates that the tourism sector is keeping a watchful eye on events and that the Kenya Tourism Federation’s 24/7 operations centre will continue to liaise with the industry.
The new date is now Thursday the 26th of October and IEBC will provide further updates tomorrow.
Feedback from the tourism sector remains broadly optimistic as arrival numbers have kept steady unlike in the past when election cycles almost inevitably resulted in a dip in numbers. While there is consensus that more needs to be done to market the country and bring more charters and scheduled flights to Mombasa is the tourism industry hopeful that the upcoming Magical Kenya Travel Expo from 03rd to 05th of October will showcase the country from its best side to well over 100 hosted buyers and invited international travel media.
Over 1.500 appointments have already been confirmed for the event at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre and notably, rather than hosted buyers, media and exhibitors cancelling their participation is the demand to register still sustained two weeks ahead of the event.
