KENYA AIRWAYS NAMES 8 ROUTES DROPPED DUE TO LACK OF DEMAND

Citing lack of demand and pointing to the global economic downturn as a result of the #COVID19 pandemic has Kenya Airways announced that initially 8 routes will not see connections restored after the airline began international passenger flights again on the 01st of August.
The destinations named in a corporate communications bulletin are Luanda, Bamako, Brazzaville, Mogadishu, Khartoum, Djibouti, Blantyre and Maputo.
Usually well informed sources in Nairobi also suggested to ATCNews that yet more routes could be left out as the airline continues to assess route potential and route profitability at a time when it is in financial dire straits and waiting for the proposed takeover by the government to take place.
Continued airport closures in Africa, most notably Entebbe – prior to the pandemic one of Kenya Airways’ top performing routes – and entry restrictions in a number of overseas countries are making the resumption of air transport even more difficult.
